The following are basic instructions for making a simple web page and include links to some excellent pages on creating web pages with Netscape Composer by Betty Bean of Durham Public Schools. (Remember - don't redo what some one else has already done well, always ask permission and give credit!)

Saving Your Page		Saving Your document as HTML http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/html.htm Quick Tips: Saving your web page All the pieces of your web site must be in the same file folder so the first step is to create a file on your disk. Your file name must be letters and/or numbers followed by .html. No spaces or symbols (.,;: etc) are alowed. Save your page early and often. All graphics should be saved in the same folder as your html file.
Formatting page properties		Giving a Title to you Page http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/title.htm Quick Tips: General Properties The Title will appear in the grey bar at the top of the browser window. The title of this page is 'Writing a Web Page with Composer' You can also fill in the Author and Description fields although they will not appear on the screen Quick Tips: Colors and Background To change the colors on your page choose Use Custom Colors. Click on the color squares to choose a new color. You can also use an image as your background image.
Text and Formatting		Entering Text http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/entering_text.htm Creating Tables http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/tables.htm Quick Tips: Text - Composer allows you to enter text like most word processors. You can use the icons at the top of the page or the choices under the Format menu to change text font, size, style and alignment. Quick Tips: Formatting - Text may be formatted in paragraphs, lists (both in the Fromat menu) or tables (in the Insert menu)
Links		Adding Anchors http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/anchors.htm Linking to Other Pages http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/links.htm Adding a Mailto Link http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/mailto.htm Quick Tips: Links - To insert a hotlink choose the text or image you wish to link and choose link under the Insert menu. Type or paste the URL of the site you wish to link to in the Link To field.
Images		Adding Images http://www.it.dpsnc.net/elementary/bean/images.htm Quick Tips: Images Before an image can be added to a page it must be saved or downloaded into the same file as your web page file. For directions on downloading a file see the Download a File page. To insert an image choose Image in the Insert menu. Type in the file name of the image or use choose file to locat the image on your disk. You may enter an alternate image or text. This will appear if the file is not downloaded. In the Dimensions window you can change the size of the image. To keep the dimension of your image proportional check the Constrain box. Image size may be entered in pixels or percentage (use the % symbol). If you wish to have text wrap around your image select a Wrap Text setting and put some space around your image as well.
