Maximum and Minimum Temperatures

Daily maximum and minimum temperatures are an important part of the GLOBE atmospheric protocols. In this ativity you will:

1. practice reading a max-min thermometer
2. find an area in the world where the maximum and minimum temperature differ by more than 50 degrees

Click on the following link. This will take you to a simulation of a max-min thermometer. Follow the directions on the page and read the temperatures as directed. Continue to do the simulation until you can read all the temperatures without a mistake. Once you are finished use the BACK button on your browser to return to this page.

Now click on the next link. This will take you to the GLOBE website where you can search for schools. Use the serch functions to answer the following questions.

1. What was the maximum and the minimum temperature of any day in January 2001 at a school in Flordia?
2. What was the maximum and the minimum temperature at the same school ona day in August?
