In July 2005, Photonics Leaders program was established at the Science House for twenty minority students. The program is an outgrowth of Imhotep Academy for math, science and technology. The National Science Foundation fully sponsors the Photonics Leaders program.
Photonics Leaders is a two-year science and information technology program for tenth and eleventh grade students from across North Carolina. Over 3 years, 60 students will participate in 340 hours of investigations, virtual meetings and internships focused on electronics. optics, and laser technology at North Carolina State University and the Research Triangle Park. Upon successful completion of program requirements, a stipend for $2400 will be awarded to the student.
