the Team Leaders!
Team
1: John A. Holmes High School
Stephen
Karl
Stephen
has taught most of the sciences at John A. Holmes High School
in Edenton, NC and is a National Board Certified teacher.
He uses a variety of learning strategies to involve his students
in the process of science including the use of technology
and environmental testing kits. According to Stephen, “
this type of education involves students in a learning experience
that may shape their lives….I believe in students doing
projects centered around their environment and their community.”

2: John A. Holmes High School
Sherlton
Broadnax
As an
instructor of the biological sciences, Sherlton is interested
in engaging her students using real data from the Millpond.
Sherlton looks for new challenges for her AP Biology students
and for ways to capture the excitement of learning science
in her introductory biology classes. She says “ I am
interested in this project because I feel it will be an excellent
way for me to learn about the ecology of the local community
– to share with my students.”

3: Perquimans High School
Robin
Ward
Robin
teaches AP statistics and calculus at Perquimans High School
in Hertford, N.C., and is distinguished by being the first
National Board Certified teacher in Perquimans County. For
three years, Robin worked with teachers from across the state
at the North Carolina Teacher Academy to build technology
integration skills. Robin says “ I would love to bring
the classroom alive and to help students explore real world
science and mathematics – this project is exactly the
type of project I have been looking for.”

4: Bertie High School
Bruce
Boller
“
I have always been an avid naturalist. I love the outdoors,”
says Bruce Boller, high school science teacher at Bertie High
School, N.C. Bruce has been involved with high school science
education at many levels, and constantly seeks new opportunities
for his students. He is a National Board certified teacher
who believes that the outdoor classroom is a place to spark
imagination and inquiry in his students. Bruce feels that
his involvement with this project will provide a way for him
to build a strong network of collaboration with other teachers
in Northeastern N.C.

5: Gates High School
Teri
Campbell
Teri Campbell
likes to “get out of class to do real science”.
She provides her students with field opportunities that range
from geology/environmental trips to the North Carolina mountains
to coastal assessment field experiences sponsored by the N.C.
Coastal Federation. Teri teaches many of the biological sciences,
including AP Biology, at Gates County High School. She believes
that technology enhances the process as well as the outcome
of science experimentation, and seeks to stay current with
the latest science education technology tools.
