Bennett’s
Millpond Academy Summer 2004
Reflective Comments and Special Pictures:
“My first impressions of the Bennett's millpond project are definitely very positive. I am very excited about what the future holds for this project. I am very fortunate to have been chosen to participate in this project. The last few days have been both interesting and educational. I know that there is a lot that I have to learn and I am willing to put forth all of the effort required to get the job done.”
“My first impression of the millpond was it was a beautiful place and it was going to be a wonderful experience. I felt like I was in over my head at first, but I caught on little by little. This year is better I feel very comfortable with my surroundings; since this is my second year doing work with the millpond project.”
“Simply consider the delicate balance of the Millpond ecosystem - for instance the effect of a single hurricane; consider the plethora of the flora and fauna found at the Millpond; consider the delicate balance of the makeup of the water - is it not humbling to consider how little we know and yet how well the Millpond endures. Though we can never fully understand everything about the Millpond, researching and attempting to understand the Millpond is an endeavor fulfilling and worthwhile.” – 2nd year Millpond student
“From my observations so far, I believe this millpond project will be a joy to participate in. I am very interested in the life forms that live in the millpond and that’s what I would like to study the most.”
“My favorite activity was meeting new people; after all, in another year, my journey will be finished with the millpond project. I hope that the new people that come and research will like it. There is no way you can be bored because everything fun under the sun happens at the millpond.” – 2nd year Millpond student
“Hi guys. I've been keeping up with the website. I'm very impressed with the new ideas that have been generated and I'm sure everyone is going to do a fantastic job on the research projects for the 2005 symposium. Just in case, if anybody runs into a roadblock while researching/surfing the net for ideas/etc, I'll be glad to help. Since ya'll are the experts, I probably won't know the necessary info myself, but perhaps I'll be able to connect you with some MIT/Harvard students/teachers/researchers. A little PR goes a long way. For future reference, just post a message/question on the website (I'll keep in touch) or e-mail me. Oh yeah, this millpond experience is VERY valuable. A lot of my college summer exams/essays have drawn from my ALC memories, so if you ever feel bogged down with research work and senior activities, just think: this is an investment in the future. :) –Millpond graduate
“There are many different things that pop out to us (Team 1) as valuable in our field research. For one thing each of us on the team learn something new about the equipment and the test site every time we're there, even though sometimes the equipment acts up on us and doesn't feel like working it's still fun. It makes us realize that we are able to give something back to the community by doing something that no student or scientist has done through field research here at Bennett's Millpond.”
