Science
of Sports Camp 1997
Rising
10th and 11th graders spent two weeks this summer
using computers and laboratory equipment to investigate
how science affects sports. How can golf clubs be
designed to hit the ball further? What is the best
way for a basketball player to aim her shots at the
basket? Students learned to design their own research
problems and to report their results in person and
on the World Wide Web. Students were housed on NCSU's
main campus and conducted most of their research at
The Science House. The two week program was free to
15 students selected on the basis of demonstrated
talent and interest in science, mathematics and technology.
The Burroughs Wellcome Fund supported the Science
Research Summer Camp.
