Lab Report

What is the best material for swimming?  We endeavored to answer this question.  This is important to swimmers who want to shave seconds off their time.  Because in competition, a fraction of a second can mean the difference between going home a winner or a loser.
In our experiment, we sought out to find which material is the best.  We conducted the experiment using various types of material.   We first measured the water temperature at 25.3 degrees Celcius.  Then we dropped a "naked" 20 oz. bottle, filled with part sand and part water, 137 cm to the bottom of the pool.  We repeated this ten times to compensate for any error.  Miss Thomas stayed in the pool to retrieve the bottle after each trial.
We repeated this, covering the bottle with each of the materials we tested: cotton, plastic, felt, balloon, polyester mesh, soft velcro, and hard velcro.  We found that the naked bottle made the best time with 1.95 seconds.  Click the link below to view the chart showing the results of our experiment.
