The reason that so much attention is paid to football each Fall and Winter, and to Arena football in the Spring is because NFL and NCAA fans see football as a wonderful way to appreciate physics, especially mechanics.
It is true that in some parts of the US, e.g. Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, football has been elevated to a religion, but that is beyond the scope of this talk.
I list some of the topics from mechanics that are most prominent in football and provide good sources for examples in introductory physics courses.
In this talk I will concentrate on forces, momenta, and torques. These are parts of the ãcontactä in football.
