Best for: K-8 Students

General Description: Pages devoted to specific aspects of the Solar System each one with images, diagrams, sound bites, or movies, the Express Tour allows you to quickly move through the most interesting parts of the site, glossary compiles all the unfamiliar technical terms.

Curriculum Involved: Planets and their satellites, Small bodies, Solar System, Spacecraft and Man-Made Satellites, classification and history.

Learning Activities: None

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Separate pages describing each part of the Solar System from planets to their satellites to space missions, gives the history and mythology behind each.

Pictures: Excellent database of all the NASA stereo images in the site on one page including planets and their features, avaliable in different sizes.

Navigation and Hot Spots: Master Picture List, Table of Contents allows you to click directly to the desired information.


NASAKids: by Liftoff to Space Exploration- kids.msfc.nasa.gov

Best for: K-6 Students

General Description: Currently under construction, descriptions broken down into 2 major study areas (Space Science, Rockets and Astronauts), games and quizzes to supplement the background information, a mole guides students through the site, gives pronunciation and definition of difficult technical words.

Curriculum Involved: Solar System, Planets, Space Exploration/Travel.

Learning Activities: Online games.

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Currently under construction.

Pictures: A few pictures of the Parts of the Solar System.

Best for: K-8 Students

General Description: Sections outlining different aspects of satellites with short, simple definitions and explanations with clear diagrams.

Curriculum Involved: Satellites, Space Exploration.

Learning Activities: Online game where the student builds his/her own satellite.

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Background information on the roles, orbits, parts, history, amd present of satellites presented in succinct paragraphs with diagrams.

General Description: Divides the same general information on the Solar System and its exploration into 2 learning levels each with its own set of activities, an archive of monthly questions with thorough answers, color drawings, songs, movies, interesting facts, and glossary.

Curriculum Involved: Solar System, Universe, Space Travel.

Learning Activities: Online activities for students to complete.

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Sections about the general Solar System and its parts, the Universe as a whole, and the spacecrafts that travel and explore it.

Pictures: None except the color drawings in the descriptions.

Navigation and Hot Spots: Choose the level at which you want to study the material and move through its pages.

General Description: Succinct descriptions and images of each planet and its features as well as other small bodies found in space and the major space explorers, extensive glossary of terms.

Curriculum Involved: Planets (physical features), Small Bodies in Space, Exploring Crafts.

Learning Activities: None

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Each page consists of a profile of the planet with basic statistics, an overall description of the planet, and a section devoted to each interesting topographical and geological structure.

Pictures: Up-close detailed black-and-white images showing the topographical features, smaller color images of planets, space bodies, explorers.

Navigation and Hot Spots: Click on the thumbnail of the desired topic.

Best for: 6-8 Students

General Description: Seperate descriptive pages dedicated to the history of each planet and their features, the how's and why's of space exploration with an overview of each mission as arranged by the planet it studies and the time period it launched. Curriculum Involved: Solar System and its history, Planets, Space Exploration and its history.

Learning Activities: None

Math Integration: None

Research Material: This website is designed especially for student projects. Descriptive pages that mostly explain the history of our knowledge of each planet and its features.

Pictures: One small image of each major body in our Solar System.

Navigation and Hot Spots: All of the "Features" sections are excellent.

General Description: Comprehensive overview of the Solar System, its components, and the missions that study it, each section has furthur explanatory pages for older students seeking more specific information.

Curriculum Involved: Universe and Solar System, Stars and Galaxies, Space Debris, Missions.

Learning Activities: None

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Pictures and descriptions of the Solar System including geological features, weather, and features as well as descriptions of space missions, their pasts, presents and futures.

Pictures: Explanatory images of planets, other space bodies, and space exploration equipment.

Navigation and Hot Spots: Clear index allows you to click to desired information and then continue to the depth needed.

Best for: K-8 Students

General Description: Link to NeurOn Express which has 2 sets of pages with the same information geared to different age groups' vocabulary and interests (K-4, 5-8), descriptions with explanatory graphics, cartoons, pictures, brain teezers, and fun activities to do alone.

Curriculum Involved: Astronauts, Space Travel, Gravity.

Learning Activities: None

Math Integration: None

Research Material: The sets of pages lead the student through the aspects of space travel including crafts and their instruments, launch, and gathering of data.
Pictures: Indexed by subject, pictures of life preceeding and on the mission, movie of Spacelab training facility.

Best for: K-8 Students

General Description: A general page briefly describes each of the planets then links to more specific pages, puzzles and games for students, common questions are answered and basic facts are listed, page listing the the happenings in the sky for a particular month.

Curriculum Involved: Solar System, Planets, Stars.

Learning Activities: Online puzzles and games for students.

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Background on each planet with an image and its history, topography, features, and position in the sky.

Pictures: One image of each planet.

Navigation and Hot Spots: All the parts of this website are worth checking out!


Welcome To Mars Missions- mars.sgi.com

Best for: 6-8 Students

General Description: Follows the status of Mars missions as they progress, constantly undated with new data and images, LIVE audios and videos, news stories about the missions.

Curriculum Involved: Mars and Space Exploration.

Learning Activities: None but does provide data sets for analysis.

Math Integration: None

Research Material: Specific information about the goals, birth, progress, and future of each Mission including images from them.

Pictures: 3-D images that can be viewed in black and white or in color with 3-D glasses, arranged chronologically and by category, new ones constantly added.

Navigation and Hot Spots: (This site is a bit tricky and complicated.) Choose which mission to study, then look around for whatever type of information you need.
