Part 3: Removing Kudzu

Your group has been charged with creating a plan for eliminating the kudzu in the area shown by the orthophotos. Use the web sites from Part 1 to select 4 or more methods for destroying the kudzu. At least one method must be non-chemical.

Create a cost analysis table using a spreadsheet that automatically calculates the cost of removing the kudzu by each method. The cost of some pesticides may be found on the web site 'How to control Kudzu' (http://www.safnet.org/archive/0503_howtokudzu.cfm). You may need to contact local landscaping companies to get costs for mowing and burning.

For each method, compare the cost to the environmental effects.

Select the method you believe will remove the kudzu most efficiently with the least cost and environmental impact.

How does the area infested with kudzu affect the cost?

Create up to 3 graphs using the data you have collected to support your decision. For help creating graphs visit LabWrite (http://labwrite.ncsu.edu/www/res/res-homepage.htm).

Prepare a presentation to the town council.
