Western
Regional Satellite Office
With the support of NC State University and
the Glaxo-Wellcome Foundation, the western outreach program
was implemented so that The Science House could extend to
the western part of the state the types of programs that
have been offered in Eastern NC. The
Western Satellite Officeis located in The Education Center
in Lenoir and serves schools in Caldwell and surrounding
counties. Eight Macintosh laptop computers outfitted with
a Vernier Universal Lab Interface and probes are taken to
the schools in three to four day blocks. The computers were
first taken into the schools in January '97. Since that
time, 37 teachers and over 2,500 students from six different
high schools have participated in the program. In
addition, a set of TI-83 graphing calculators, along with
CBL units and probes, are available for middle school programs.

- Introducing the New LabQuest: A Science House Technology Workshop
at The Education Center in Lenoir on June 24th 9am - 4 pm
How would you like having free technology brought to your classroom when you requested it? How would you like having your students engaged and excited about their science and math lessons? How would you like free resources and labs to use in your classroom? All this can be yours and more with a day of training courtesy of The Science House of NC State University. Come join us, June 24th 9 am-4 pm. We will use the new handheld Vernier LabQuests and various probes to explore science and math concepts. After the day's training session, you will be certified to partner with The Science House. This means a class set of the equipment can be brought to your school for a week at a time for your students to use!
