The Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Golden Leaf Foundation have provided support for the Bennett’s Millpond Environmental Learning Project, a place-based model focused on engaging students, teacher and community in extended research on a coastal millpond. The Bennett’s Millpond Project and similar place-based projects can be replicated in any community. The Northeast office of The Science House offers expertise in planning and implementing Place-based Learning (PBL) work, as well as an online guide for beginning and sustaining a community-connected science inquiry project. See how The Science House uses Place-based Learning to encourage innovative learning strategies.

We work with teachers and community groups using technology to enhance and complement existing classroom objectives. This office has the resources to assist with laboratory exercises with probeware, preparation for regional and state competitions in science, environmental field experiences, GPS and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications.
Local teachers trained on equipment usage can borrow a variety of probes, LabPro interfaces and calculators for classroom/field exploration and hands-on science experiments.
