You
can make an impact on the quality of K-12 science and
math education across North Carolina and beyond by supporting
The Science House Endowment. The endowment will provide
funding for Science House programs, especially new initiatives
that extend our reach and innovative programs for teachers
and students.
What
we do
A
national model, The Science House annually helps more
than 5,000 teachers learn new ways to involve their
students in activities that encourage the excitement
and challenge of hands-on learning. The Science House
is now actively involved in projects in several states.
Rural
schools stretched to find qualified teachers and obtain
laboratory equipment are provided training and equipment
loans from our five satellite offices. Middle and high
school students participate in science and mathematics
camps at NC State and at the rural satellites.
The
Science House develops laboratory activity books that
show how research at NC State will affect our daily
lives. Teachers and students across the nation use free
learning activities, such as Countertop Chemistry, that
are on our Web site.
Why
give?
Much of the financial support for these activities comes
from the NC State College of Physical and Mathematical
Sciences and competitive grants. But grants and state-legislated
budgets cannot meet the total needs of our growing program.
We seek to establish a $1,000,000 endowment for The
Science House that will fill funding gaps and ensure
the continuation of our proven program.
We
have already received over $500,000 in commitments and
encourage supporters of science and mathematics education
and NC State University to consider a contribution to
the fund. The contributions will serve our future scientists,
engineers and mathematicians.
