Ways to Volunteer
I am interested but what can I do?
There are different ways that you can help us! We want you to find
something that you feel comfortable doing and that you enjoy. Feel
free to try many different things.
-
K-12 Visits
- K-12 visits involve doing experiments with students between kindergarten
and 12th grade. You will hear about opportunities from Dr. Bellamy
via e-mail or you can check out our online
list. E-mail Dr. Bellamy
or use our online form when
you find an opportunity that interests you. Remember, you do not
have to do a visit alone. Lots of help is available from both us
and teachers. Check out our description of a typical
visit under "Visit Basics". It is also great if you
have heard of an opportunity that we have not. Let us know about
it and we will help you!
- Interviews
- We are putting out a bi-monthly newsletter called "Focus
On a Scientist". This is to help students see that scientists
are real people too. We interview a CERSP scientist and then create
a newsletter about him/her. We take a picture to include in the
newsletter. We also create an activity that is associated with the
scientist's research. You can volunteer
to be one of these scientists. Check out the newsletter
online to see some of your fellow scientists' interviews.
- Answer e-mails
- Sometimes we get e-mails from students and teachers asking us
questions about science and scientists. You can help
us respond to these questions. We will send you an e-mail with
a class's question and you will e-mail us a response, which we will
then forward on to the class.
- Other Ways
- There are other ways you can help. For example, you might think
of a simple lab that teaches about what you do. Even if it seems
too simple to you, it may be good to use with kids. Send us ideas
via e-mail! Any other
way you think of that you can help us is great! We are open to suggestions.
Now what?
Now you are ready to volunteer! You can do this by sending an e-mail to
Dr. Bellamy or by using our
online form.
