What is a CBL?

CBL stands for Calculator Based Laboratory. It is a portable data collection device made by Texas Instruments (TI) that is used with TI Graphing Calculators and a variety of probes.

The CBL may be purchased through distributing companies such as Vernier Inc. (they also make all the probes) or AccuLab.

The CBL comes in a carrying case with a temperature probe, light probe and voltage probe (shown below).

TI Graphing Calculators are used with the CBL system to collect and analyze data using programs available online.

The CBL may be used with TI-73, 81, 82, 83, 83 plus, 86, 92, and 92 plus calculators. The TI-83 plus is pictured here.

The CBL unit connects to the calculator with this black link cable that comes with the TI Graphing Calculator.
The temperature probe is included in the CBL case and measures temperatures from -10 to 120 degrees Celsius. The probe itself is about 12 inches long and flexible.
The voltage probe is included in the CBL case and measures difference in electric potential in volts. Squeezing the probe ends reveals a metal hook that may be touched to or hooked on wires or leads.
The light probe is included in the CBL case and measures light intensity. The tube containing the probe is about 5 inches long and fits well in standard laboratory clamps
